Maintenance and repairs to all agricultural machinery and electrical control systems. Installation, maintenance and diagnosis of GPS location and guidance systems.

This role was predominantly a mechanical role although I did perform the auto-electrical role when there were none on site or during night shift. The machines worked on varied from Caterpillar B through E series scrapers, dozers (D7 through to 84W D10,) graders, and haul trucks.

This was the start of my agricultural career where I learnt to work on most types of machines from tractors, headers (combines,) seeding rigs, sprayers and other implements. Due to my previous electrical experience I was also installing the early auto guidance / virtual road systems of the day.

Directly after leaving the Navy, I commenced working for various companies on short term contracts. The work included plant fitting, heavy vehicle and light vehicle mechanics, and auto electrical work. During some of these contracts I performed the role of leading hand and technical support for anything involving a computer whether in an office or on a machine.

In the 11 years I was employed by the Navy, I was tasked with multiple roles. The exacting nature of defence cemented both my technical skills and my attention to quality along the way. I was fortunate to be trained and then continued on the specialising in mechanical, electrical and electronic repair roles often concurrently on a ship. This allowed for less time diagnosing (and blame shifting,) and more time repairing often critical subsystems to allow the ship to continue in what ever role it was tasked with at the time. My specialities included electrical and associated control system diagnosis and repair as well as repair to mechanical and hydraulic systems. Later in my career I was in charge of management of teams and scheduling of maintenance to ensure timely repairs as required and meetingthe required quality standards (ISO9001:94 and SubSafe.)
