I drive a shuttle van to and from the three Fordham campuses. I have successfully managed a wide variety of situations such as challenging customers, poor conditions, and even poorer drivers. For example, when driving on a late saturday night, an intoxicated driver slammed into my van. Because of this, I immediately pulled over and quickly checked if my passengers were injured. After fortunately learning that no one was hurt, I radioed the office and reported the hit and run. Finally, I waited for well over an hour for a tow truck after another van arrived and took my passengers. Ultimately, working at ram van has taught me to be prepared for any and every kimd of disaster.

I taught a middle school writing class in Harlem where students created their own children's storybooks and presented their stories. I had to quickly learn to accommodate many different learning styles but also maintain order. For instance, a particular student refused to follow directions and insisted on leaving the class. However, I decided to discuss her issues with the class one on one. After realizing her problems with some parts of the program, I adjusted specifically for her so she would not fall behind. Ultimately, volunteering with Citizens schools has instilled me with an openness to others and an action oriented mindset to ensure that this openness is not simply theoretical.

I assisted in presenting and organizing religious events for middle schoolers at my local parish in association with the EDGE program. I learned to quickly adapt to accommodate for middle school students. For example, during an event discussing prayer, I helped brainstorm an activity where kids would draw what they would pray for in groups and the present those drawings to the other groups. Because the game was so successful in cementing the concept, I decided to switch groups and ask the kids what they were thankul for. Ultimately, my experience with EDGE has made me into a more versatile person willing to work with others.
