ASSIA provides software and services to improve broadband access connection quality. Some of the ASSIA concepts gestated at Stanford and moved with me (and several former students) to ASSIA. Today about 110 employees in several locations worldwide.

I was fulltime faculty fron 1986- 2009, and then part-time faculty since continuing to the present as recalled emeritus faculty.

Altobeam provides chips for the new Chinese-standardized digital TV market, and was started by former PhD student Steve Zeng.

Collinear provided free-space-optic and millimeter-wave backhaul equipment to Telecom Service providers. Former PhD student Dr. Norm Swenson was Chief Technical Officer.

ClariPhy provides transceiver chips that use digital signal processing and coding to improve highest speed fiber-line transmission in core telecom and enterprise markets. ClariPhy was started by former students Paul Voois and Norm Swenson.

Teranetics was the original and first supplier of 10 Gbps copper ethernet chip components. It was started by former PhD student Sanjay Kasturia and sold in 2009 to PLX.

Initiated Marvell's communication efforts (Gigabit ethernet transceivers), allowing company to migrate from read-channel components into data communications. Also chaired Marvell's Executive Compensation Committee. Helped see company through successful IPO.

Investor, Member Board, also member of Comp Committee. Teknovus introduced ethernet passive optical network (EPON) technologies. I introduced several investors and recruited the last two Chairmen of Board. Eventually purchased by Broadcom. The company was started by former PhD student Jackie Chow.

Texas Instruments bought Amati, and I helped transition of TI into DSL business until late 1999, when they became the #1 global DSL component supplier and stayed in that position until about 2003.

Founded company and did original design of what are known today as ADSL and VDSL. Less known, but also built first working cable modem (Anaheim cable show 1993) and first working digital audio broadcast system (FM radio, 1994). Helped bring company public in 1995 as well as sell it as public company in 1998 to Texas Instruments.

Designed, and later implemented while at Stanford in research prototype chips, world's first adaptive equalizers for storage disks, which roughly increased storage density by 50%.

Designed and implemented first full-duplex (echo cancelled) voiceband modems, a key enabler for v.32 and subsequent voiceband modem standards.
