National Society of AccountantsThe National Society of Accountants (NSA) provides national leadership in the profession of accountancy and taxation by working to preserve the practice rights of public accountants, promoting the value of accreditation within the profession, and upholding high standards in ethics, education and professional excellence.Since its founding in 1945, NSA has been the trusted voice of “main street” tax and accounting. As a stakeholder with the IRS, NSA provides input to various regulatory bodies on proposed changes in all areas of tax and accounting and has a visible presence with the IRS as a member of the National Public Liaison group. In 1969, NSA formed the NSA Scholarship Foundation, a non profit organization whose primary focus is as a funding source to support the accessibility of high-quality education for all individuals interested in pursuing a degree in accounting. In 1973, NSA spearheaded efforts to launch the Accreditation Council for Accountancy and Taxation® (ACAT), a non profit testing, accrediting and monitoring organization that recognizes individual expertise in specific areas of accounting and taxation and adherence to the Council's Code of Ethics and Rules of Professional Conduct. Today, NSA actively engages in numerous activities that supports its mission including the on-going development and delivering of high-quality, topic-focused continuing professional education (CPE) opportunities, both live and on demand, such as review courses for the Enrolled Agent and ACAT exams. Additionally, NSA offers an extensive portfolio of member benefits aimed at filling the business and information needs of independent practitioners.
