Served as Chief Executive Officer at Box Hill Institute for 14 years and previously served as CEO/Director at Gordon Institute of TAFE. He has 39 years’ experience in the education sector with more than 30 years in senior executive roles. He has wide experience in vocational education and training (VET), Higher Education and workforce development in many countries and understands the importance of recognising cultural differences. He has had responsibility across areas such as a strategic and business planning; business development; enterprise based training needs assessments, workforce development strategies and programs, large scale project management, VET program delivery; development of flexible delivery modes; entrepreneurial and commercial activities; VET research; quality and customer service initiatives; marketing and public relations; information services; international education; and financial management.Under John’s guidance Box Hill Institute established itself as one of the pre-eminent Institutes in Australia, enjoying significant growth, within Victoria and internationally. It included globalisation of its operations in a range of international locations including campuses and licensed partners in Singapore, Macau, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Fiji, Samoa, Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu as well as significantly expanding its adult, community and further education offerings through merging with the Council for Adult Education (CAE). This led to learner registration increasing from 29,000 in 1999 to over 70,000 student enrolments and 100,000 learner registrations in 2013.John was recognised in 2013 as a Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to vocational education and training and to the sport of basketball. He is also a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (FAICD).
