Develop occupational standards for the hospitality industry and evaluate national qualifications/awards. • Develop national occupational standards for various hotel sector jobs ranging from Level 2 to Level 5 on the European Qualifications Framework. Up until June 2018 I was a member of the Sector Skills Unit.• Evaluated various national qualifications.

To advance the profile of the tourism sector, I develop and implement annual quality and sustainability recognition programmes, including a high impact EU funded project valued in excess of €3 million. With my aptitude for leadership and management, I supervise a team of six individuals while also organising various events and training seminars guiding activities from conception to execution. Specific highlights with this position include:• Leading a successful training programme on change and innovation for tourism leaders. This programme, involving 200+ international field visits (Italy and Scotland), was directed at management grades and was financially sponsored primarily through the European Social Fund. The outcome resulted in 1,000+ individuals completing the programme and achieving an Award at Level 5 on the European Qualifications Framework (EQF). • Coordinating the development and management of a Quality Label for Malta resulting in a representation of 20% of the best restaurants, 30% of the best destination management companies, and 30% of the best visitor attractions• Developing a hospitality and tourism sector Skills Card, currently in the pilot stage.

To develop quality assurance programmes I built collaborative alliances with stakeholders and European tourism organisations. Specific highlights for this position included:• Initiating a new unit to develop and recognise quality standards. This resulted in the creation of the Special Thanks and Recognition (STAR) Awards and the Quality Label to drive an increase in excellence for service and hospitality. • Boosting the profile of the Maltese Islands, attaining 12,000+ tourist nominations annually through the STAR Awards programme.• Introducing a Quality Label, initially established for Destination Management Companies (DMCs). The success of the scheme led to replication outside of Malta. • Successfully developing and managing sustainability plan for hotels with close to a 20% participation rate, the highest for a European national scheme.

I ensured that the quality of hotels was attained by conducting inspections and validating star ratings. To promote effective change, I partnered with other team members to draft new laws. Specific highlights for this position include:• Assisting in the initial establishment of the department.• Creating a quality charter to calculate frequency of hotel inspections.
