The Engineering Development Facility is an area for engineers to develop prototype hardware for future projects. I assist with the development of those projects, consult on the manufacturability of machined parts and machine parts using our in house machine shop.

I am responsible for the planning of all manufacturing steps required to complete each job. My responsibilities also include the day to day supervision of 28 machines. These included CNC mills & lathes, manual mills & lathes, CNC saws, hones, gun drills & both wire & plunge EDMs. I have a vast amount of experience in manufacturing parts for Schlumberger, Baker, Well Dynamics, Cooper, NASA etc.

My responsibilities included programming for the entire shop using EdgeCAM & GibbsCAM, designing all necessary fixturing, filling in as a machinist as necessary, purchasing of all tooling and supplies and job estimating. I again implemented a work instruction for the creation, secure storage & cataloging of proven programs, and an organized tool crib to increase efficiency. I also created a training syllabus for the machinists with the intent of reducing the number of mistakes made on the shop floor.

In addition to my previous experience I have become very proficient with EdgeCAM using it nearly exclusively for the programming of all CNC operations. Many of the programs I produced were directly from solid models where the prints had very few dimensions. I also gained greater programming knowledge of simultaneous 5 axis milling operations on a DMU 120 that was previously only used for 2D operations. I work closely with the personnel on the floor assisting in set ups, and occasionally running some of the more difficult jobs. Some changes I implemented to increase productivity and quality included a complete work instruction for the creation, secure storage and cataloging of proven programs, an organized tool crib, and an increase in tooling knowledge on the shop floor for more efficient speeds and feeds. The work load was a combination of both aerospace and oil field related parts.

These included CNC mills and lathes, manual mills and lathes, CNC saws, hones, gun drills and both wire and plunge EDMs. I worked closely with the operations manager to ensure that jobs were delivered on time, and within the budgeted hours. My greatest achievement at that position was the reduction of late jobs from over 280 to zero in approximately 6 months. I have a vast amount of experience in manufacturing parts for Schlumberger, Baker, Well Dynamics, Cooper, NASA etc.,; As the senior programmer I was responsible for programming all CNC machines. These include CNC lathes, vertical mills, horizontal mills with 5 axis capability, mill turns (lathes with live tooling), and wire EDMs. Most were Mori Seiki machines equipped with Fanuc controls, but I am also familiar with Mazatrol. I am very proficient in the use of EZ-CAM and GibbsCAM. I was responsible for designing all fixturing, designing prints for special tooling, providing set-up sheets, revision updates, and special tool cataloging.

My position as machine shop manager required that I work closely with the general manager to ensure that all projects were completed on time and within budgeted hours. I was often assigned projects to manage from beginning to end. This required coordination with the model shop manager, fabrication manager, engineering manager, and other sources outside of USM to complete all facets of the project. One such project was a robotic arm trainer for SPAR (Canadian Space Agency) that they used to train astronauts for the space shuttle in the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory (NBL). During my time at USM we also built full scale trainers of the F-22 Raptor for the Air Force.

Set-up and operate CNC and manual mills, lathes and EDMs where I was often required to hold tolerances as close as 0.0005". Ability to read and interpret blue prints.

Test, Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment Maintenance Specialist I was responsible for the calibration and repair of physical and electronic measuring equipment. One interesting project I performed while stationed at White Sands Missile Range was the testing of circuit cards for the F-117 and B-2 bomber for their radiation failure point.
