At RapidSOS, I am responsible for the service availability and security of our mission critical platform, particularly our production environment which serves real world 911 emergencies. I manage a team consisting of SRE/DevOps, Production Security, and Network Operations. Relevant technologies employed are AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, Python, Github, and Datadog. I would say approximately 50% of my time is hands-on with the above technologies, and the other 50% is spent managing.

In this DevOps type role I worked to ensure the success of our hybrid On-Prem/Cloud tech strategy. My initial focus was to standardize the VPC build process on 50+ AWS accounts which I accomplished with CloudFormation. As part of the CCoE (Cloud Center of Excellence) team I worked to improve our processes via automation: Jenkins jobs to standardize AMIs, Ansible & Packer to ensure OS consistency, Python Boto3/Lambda to fill gaps in AWS functionality, EKS to deploy Docker images into Kubernetes. I also performed AWS training as part of a curriculum.

In this role I handled many Operational functions such as building out a 24x7x365 NOC team, deploying and standardizing application builds with Ansible, scripted out our Nagios monitoring (with BASH/Python) and Opsgenie escalation applications, deployed the entire Identity Management, AD forest, email etc. Other tasks included CentOS Linux systems troubleshooting, MySQL DBA work, and security/SOC auditing compliance. I also ran the Change Management process which reviewed all change to our Production Environment

This was a development position for an E-commerce site. Here, I optimized a non-performant website by fixing bugs, improving inefficient MySQLdatabase queries/indexes, and stabilizing the Redhat OS environment. I also helped build new PERL modules and payment processing cronjobs.

Here I worked as the MySQL SME to support various PHP, PERL, and Java based applications by optimizing queries, selecting drivers, & modules, etc. I also performed Linux systems OS work, Bash scripting, LAMP deployments, and Kickstart builds. I also worked to build out the VMWare ESX platform.
