John Mandyck joined Urban Green Council in 2018 as its first-ever CEO. Urban Green is a nonprofit environmental organization dedicated to decarbonizing buildings for healthy and resilient communities. Prior to Urban Green, John spent 25 years at Fortune 45 United Technologies Corporation with well-known global brands such as Carrier air conditioning systems, Otis elevators and Pratt & Whitney jet engines. His career spanned government relations, marketing, communications and sustainability. He retired as global Chief Sustainability Officer for the $60B company in 2018.John is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Connecticut School of Business where he was recruited to design and teach the sustainability and ESG course for MBA students. He was also a Visiting Scientist at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health helping to define the future of healthy cities. John is the founding chair of the Corporate Advisory Board for the World Green Building Council and former chair of Urban Green. He has published on sustainability in Harvard Business Review and is the co-author of the book Food Foolish, which explores the hidden connection between food waste, hunger and climate change.
