I was an intern in the Optical Metrology Lab in the Bausch + Lomb Rochester location. I worked closely with Nicholas Baxter and Kenneth Bergado and was under management of Julie Machell. The lab works closely within the Global Pharma and Medical Device Engineering sector of the company. Some tasks I performed include taking data for a sample of components of products, for example eye drop bottles, and analyzing the critical measurements of these parts within the tolerances given to evaluate the quality of the part. In addition, I sought to improve measurement techniques by facilitating Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility tests to examine the effectiveness of the method. Another task was to research optical systems for use in our labs and manufacturing sectors to search for defects in the plastic components produced. I was also delighted with the opportunity to speak with some of the optical engineers within the company over the course of my internship.
