Worked on characterizing the structure of optimal codes for use in Trellis coded quantization. Built a solid understanding of a modern research problem in “Trellis coded quantization” in less than 3 weeks.Optimized the performance of the Matlab functions to reduce the computational complexity, which cut the simulation time by more than 40%.Analyzed the performance of the Matlab code and identified the bottleneck parts, and re-wrote them in C++, yielding a reduction of 60-95% of the computational time for small and medium sized problems. Implemented a testing plan to test a large set of lossy compression codes using MSI supercomputing via remote connections under UNIX.
