About John Mccarthy, Ed.D.
My skills, experiences, and education even prior to pursuing my doctorate have enabled me to lead in a number of different scenarios. My most recent educational achievement, which spanned over four years, has further enhanced my leadership abilities. I am adept at public speaking. I can manage a project and lead a staff of professionals in achieving the desired outcome in any education program. Through my doctoral program, I've taken an extremely large project--researching and evaluating an existing program--and I was able to quickly learn all of the components and stakeholders involved with this program and break down this large project into manageable components. I have the ability to argue in defense of my position and influence senior level administrators, faculty, and adjunct faculty in order to reach agreement with my approach/perspective/analysis--all of this through my ability to base my position on data-driven analyses and supporting evidence-based research. I am skilled at report writing, proposal-writing, and grant-writing, and administration. I possess the 'people skills' necessary to be an effective leader, yet also a competent and contributing team player. I am an intelligent man (a quick learner), personable, and possess an excellent work ethic. I have always tried to lead by example. I believe that providing an exemplary role-model is key to instilling trust in a leader. In my work, I've always espoused a "do whatever it takes" (to complete the task/the job) perspective, obviously within appropriate guidelines and ethics. In my current position, I enjoy report writing, as I am an effective writer. I'm a detail person and I enjoy the detailed aspects of program evaluation and quality improvement (all of the perspectives that are encompassed in the accreditation process). I enjoy managing staff and providing feedback, as well as receiving feedback. I am a good communicator and communication (two-way) is very important to me.
