From a young age I had an interest in money. Like most young people, I wanted to be RICH.I found people liked the idea of what more money could do for them and the choices this would afford them, even if they weren’t interested in learning about it.With this knowledge, I became interested in financial advice businesses. Do what you enjoy for work and it is no longer work. I also learned not all financial advice businesses were equal. Some were more directed to gaining a sale than operating in the best interests of the client, which I struggled with personally.After selling a business in late 2007, I had three years off. During this time, I looked at a financial plan for one of my family members. After reading it, I thought I need to build a business focused on client outcomes not selling financial products!In 2011, I took over the management of Saturn and soon became the largest shareholder. My aim was to build a financial advice business which had no investment products to sell with team of financial advisers who were on fixed remuneration with no bonuses or commissions paid. I believed, if the business model focused on the best financial advice for those people who wanted to improve their financial lives and there were no incentives, I could refer my family and friends knowing they would get the best advice for them! My team of advisers focus on how to get the best outcome for clients not on how much money they could earn from the client.We have built one of New Zealand’s most client friendly, transparent financial and advice businesses. It is amazing to see a new client relax once they understand if they choose to invest or not with Saturn this will not affect the advisers’ income.
