I started working a chemical engineer in June 1959,at the Navy Powder Factory renamed the Naval Propellant Plant (NPP) and Naval Ordnance Station when I left. I worked in development and processing of propellants and explosives. I worked with a slurry cast system uisng Plastisol Nitrocellulose (PNC),TMETN Nitrate ester, Ammonium Perchlorate (AP), and Aluminum (AL). I cast this propellant into Bullpup warheads for testingas an expolsive. Result lead to development of cast Plastic Bonded Expolsives (PBX) In 1961, I with a composite propellant using a polyurethane binder with AP and Aluminun.used to cast a Spherical rocket use for NASA test. I worked a with cast composite propellants used for development and production of Sidewinder rocket motors. I lead propellant processing and cast the rocket motors required to qualify NPP as a manufactured of Sidewinder, Tartar and other Navy motors. I also prcessed casting powder,cast and extruded double base propelllants, gun propellants, and thermoplastic ammonium nitrate propellants used for gas generators in Falcon and Harpoon Using propellant processing techniques, I developed processing for production of PBX for mines, warheads, bombs and projectiles. As head of the MT Department, I worked explosives, propellants,and energetic chemical including two nitrate esters plants.I worked at Applied Ordnance Technology for 16 years as a consultant engineer on processing of propellants and explosives, hazard analysis on manufacturing processes and provided explosive safety reviews. I assist a contractors on the design, construction and startup of a600 pound per hour continuous processing facility the use a 55 mm twin screw extruder for processing. The design included and automatic refill system for the solids feeders. When AOT was sold, I continued this work with SAIC for one year and continued as a self employed consultant until 2012 when I started with ERG.
