As head of the Structural Engineering Department at Jennings O'Donovan, my main duties involve managing the department to make sure that the work carried out meets the brief, is carried out to a high standard and that deadlines are met. I also provide technical support to all other engineering disciplines within the firm. I carry out structural and civil design and project management on a wide range of projects including wind farms, solar farms, electrical substations, water and wastewater treatment plants, and general building structures of all sizes. I also undertake the roles of assigned certifier and design certifier under BCAR.

Carlow

Lead engineer on various precast concrete projects ranging from single piece tanks to large modular water treatment plants and reservoirs.Assisted in the development of a modular precast system for service reservoirs.Preparation of initial proposal design and drawings.Preparation of detailed rigorous design calculations.Preparation of GA and production drawings.Dealing with customers, contractors and external consultants.Supervision/checking of work in the factory.Implementing the QA system.

Dublin

Lead engineer on various projects including oatmeal mill refurbishment, high-rise apartment developments, office developments, motor showroom, warehouse units and sports ground changing rooms.Scheme and detailed design in steel, reinforced concrete, blockwork and timber.Preparation of civil and structural specifications.Dealing with clients, contractors, local authorities and members of the design team.Managing the production of drawings.Drainage and attenuation design.Allocating work to various members of staff in order to ensure that deadlines are met and budgets are not exceeded.Assisting company directors with their management and administrative duties.

Dublin

Scheme and detailed design in concrete, steel, blockwork and timber on projects including office developments, shopping centre development, sports clubhouse development, school development and restoration projects.Spent approximately 2 years on site as resident engineer/client representative on the Palm House Complex restoration project in the Botanic Gardens in Dublin.Representing the company design meetings and client meetings.Liaising with the other members of the design team.Dealing with local authorities.Site supervision.

My role included assisting the site engineers with taking of levels and setting out of various building elements and supervising work on site for the Four Seasons Hotel project, Dublin.
