With Marion Wands, I established ConNetica Consulting in February 2007 after a 30 year career (largely) in the public sector with stints in consultancy, academia and the not-for-profit sector. In the time since 2007, ConNetica has undertaken over 300 projects - small scale through to the very large and complex - in mental health, suicide prevention, disability employment, and governance and strategy. We have also provided training in suicide prevention and mental health and wellbeing to over 5,000 people in organisations and communities from the Kimberley to Cape York, the Central Wheat Belt of WA to Eastern Melbourne. Oversaw and coordinated the campaign for mental health reform in 2005-2006 resulting in the $5.5billion Council of Australian Govenrment's National Action Plan on mental health 2006-11. Co-authored with Christina Ricca (Human Rights Commission), Ian Hickie (University of Sydney), and others, the landmark report Not for Service: Experiences of Injustice and despair in mental health care in Australia. With Sebastian Rosenberg, Simon Tatz and others, then authored and published a series of reports on actions to address the systemic problems in mental health care in Australia. A time of profound change in mental health care in Australia where a 20% real increase in funding saw the development of new community models of care.

Commonwealth statutory officer, responsible for national anti-doping policy and international cooperation on drugs in sport. Represented Australia at the Council of Europe Convention on Anti-doping, Strasbourg, France and at the International Anti-Doping Agreement with Canada, Norway, Sweden, UK, NZ, Denmark & Finland.

As Deputy and Acting CEO, with Natalie Howson (CEO), I played a key role in the development of the whole of government Tough on Drugs in Sport Strategy under the Howard Government and the international efforts to restore credibility to Olympic sport in the lead up to the Sydney Olympics. I lead the restructuring, reengineering and quality management initiatives at ASDA. ASDA became the first Commonwealth agency to every receive an Australian Quality Council award. I also lead the project to reach agreements with international sports federations and dozens of governments to ensure pre-Games testing of all Olympic athletes were legally robust.

SA representative on the Steering Committee of the National Campaign Against Drug Abuse (The Drug Offensive); Chair of the National Drug Education Committee. Responsible for state wide alcohol and drug and HIV prevention campaigns and key role in numerous innovative interventions in prisons, sex worker community, needle exchange, youth services, schools and community settings. Played key role in the largest ever investment in school health education (TEACH) and the Tobacco Control Act 1988.
