DFX (Design for X) team is focused on the intersection of design and assembly processes. We enable the next generation of Surface and Xbox products through development of innovative processes that help to realize new, unique, or difficult product features. We also work with partners across mechanical design, industrial design, reliability, and other teams to refine product designs and scale assembly processes in mass production. • Led DFA (Design for Assembly) team of 20+ engineers and managers in development and launch of Surface Laptop Studio, Slim Pen, Copilot+ PCs, Surface Duo, and Xbox consoles. • Established and drove strategic priorities, including rolling out a Product Requirements Assessment process, defining clear milestone requirements, establishing consistent approach to ROI-driven Factory Automation, creation of design for automation guidelines, standardizing equipment specs, and more. • Improved approach to knowledge management, including consistent documentation of lessons learned and best practices; a key input for AI-driven / LLM product development tools. • Drove push for CM ownership of automation, resulting in $8M reduction in capital expenditures in the first year. • Sponsored development of machine-learning-driven AOI to detect assembly defects, evaluating multiple internally and externally developed solutions. • Led hiring in US and China to support growing portfolio and mitigate challenges due to COVID travel restrictions. • Established entirely new focus and objectives for team engagement on technology development to ensure new technologies can be seamlessly incorporated into new products. • Implemented use of Manufacturing Readiness Levels (MRL) for developing new technologies. • Standardized approach to improving manufacturing flexibility and utilization of Tier 1 production lines through cross team collaboration on guidelines and responsibilities.
