Promotion and development of biomass fuel, specifically wood pellets in Northern Ireland.

After 27 years working in Scotland, and primarily because of an ageing Mother and Mother-In-Law, it was time to return to Northern Ireland. The advent of a large recycled wood burning Power Station in Londonderry was an obvious vehicle by which to effect my return to the Provence. The contract to supply fuel for this Power Station had been granted to Stobarts, who have strong links with the Jenkinson organisation, so I applied for and was successful in securing the position of Account Manager at Lisahally Power Station for SBPL for a one year contract. . In a year, the PS will burn almost 130,000 tonnes of material, or around 350 tonnes per day with an annual value of almost £6.5m, over a 20 year period. My job was to make sure that the PS was kept supplied with a suitable fuel and to make sure all invoicing was in place to ensure payment for the same. Of the 130K tonnes, 20K was contracted to a Northern Irish supplier and the rest to be imported from UK until it could be replaced by material from Southern Ireland. My primary function was to make sure that we could source the raw material in the UK, process it there and ship it to NI. It was also important to make sure that this material (and the material supplied from NI) was to the very strict specifications that the contract demanded. This infrastructure was set up quite quickly, and no major problems were encountered in the process.
