Generation and delivery of unconventional oil subsurface growth opportunities in Canada. Developing subsurface understanding of the Alberta Basin and its unconventional oil & gas resources, establishing/testing new plays and improving my understanding of the technologies for unconventional oil and gas subsurface developments.Thriving in the commercial environment in Alberta

From roles in a number of PDO projects I have an excellent overview of conventional and unconventional plays and petroleum systems in Oman and global analogues. I have a good understanding of tight gas evaluation and related issues and an in-depth knowledge of a broad range of siliciclastic and carbonate plays, with a particular interest in stratigraphic play types. My detailed knowledge has been utilised in improved tight gas evaluation procedures and new play development and provided strong steer of the government gas exploration programme (2002, 2004, 2007). My experience is utilised in my current consultative role within exploration, in addition to driving appropriate (fit-for-purpose) workflows, based on an assessment of key evaluation risks, on a project by project basis.

Driving project work leading to improved stratigraphic framework definition and subsurface reservoir models, and refined play models. As leader of a small theme group my experience/drive, project management and team leading skills have supported the initiation and management of regional framework projects, reservoir studies. In my role I have been responsible for achieving annual scope volume targets and related appropriate key operational decisions. Responsible for the definition of a multi-million tight gas work programme associated with significant exploratory appraisal activity.Introduced/used various novel tools to facilitate improved regional play understanding and subsurface/static reservoir models, particularly within lower Palaeozoic and later Proterozoic plays.

New development project screening associated with Permian carbonate and sandstone reservoirs, Triassic, Jurassic and Tertiary reservoirs, static/dynamic reservoir modelling and novel development concepts. Participated in subsurface value assurance processes, as a participant and in project external challenge roles, for major projects in the Dutch onshore and offshore.

Responsible for a small group undertaking the evaluation of extensive tracts of "non-producing" acreage within the SPDC concession area.

Developed a detailed knowledge of correlation techniques, depositional models and structural controls on deltaic depositional systems and the geological evolution of the Niger Delta and similar deltaic systems. Used these to develop multiple new opportunties.

Exploration evaluation geologist working on the N. Oman salt basins and Oman mountain foreland basin centric play characterisation, and the relatively unexplored, deep, HC plays in Oman

Lead project to select and evaluate geological software to meet future Shell UK geological computing needs: involving close liaison with IT and exploration functions.Development of internal geological database for review team use, implementation and documentation of software.

Geological Services role: various multiwell/stratigraphic studies, conventional/special core analysis and detailed core sedimentology/ petrographic work. This exposure provided a good grounding in some of the inherent uncertainties in geological/reservoir modelling (correlation, mapping in concept, upscaling and biased evaluation measurements).
