Originally brought in as a contractor, and converted to full-time after six months. Day to day duties include research and development for proof of concept projects, improvements in daily practices, documentation (MS Word, HTML5, and man pages), troubleshooting, and mentoring.Developed many shell scripts to automate tasks; including server builds, security standards compliance, troubleshooting, and patching. It was estimated that just two of these efforts (An RPM for fully automated installation and maintenance for VMwareTools, and end-to-end KickStart builds) did the work of about eight people for a year, every year. Afterwards, I had combined those two works into a much larger work; which had reduced the workload by one more person, for a total of nine people for a year, every year; which equates to millions of dollars in savings for each year, and frees up staff for other tasks.One of only four people invited to brainstorm with Red Hat's Cluster developers on improvements and additional features for RHEL7 Clustering.

As a contractor, mainly performed UNIX systems administration duties in a high-availability environment. Duties included installing, maintaining, and upgrading Sun and HP servers with Rational's ClearCase IDE, including ClearCase Web on an Apache web server. Developed Korn and Perl shell scripts to help monitor and maintain the development environment, including a unified installation script for the client version of Big Brother performance monitoring software, for installing across multiple operating systems. Developed an internal website to raise the awareness of the user community of potential problems within their environments. Also provided remote phone support, and desktop support for many proprietary software tools, using Remedy ARS.

Performed post-sales implementation as both a project manager and field engineer. Helped the customers meet our requirements before the installation began. Worked as an interface between the customer's department managers and our remote support engineers. Integrated our Sun Solaris Unix based product, both hardware and software, with the customer's network, phone switch, and desktop computers. Integration consisted of staging the Sun Ultra 2/5/60 hardware, configuring Sybase databases, testing network integrity, testing the CTI interface, customizing automated host's uploading/downloading interface, and testing the terminal emulation software on the Windows 95/98/NT4.0 based desktop computers. Also responsible for troubleshooting Sun UNIX servers during and after installation.

Performed post-sales installations, which included assembling the hardware for the server, loading the servers with NCR UNIX SVR4 MP-RAS, UNIX kernel tuning, configuring a proprietary phone switch; and integrating with the customer's network, phone switch, and desktop computers. In a previous position as a Customer Support Engineer, using Remedy for phone support, for problem ranging from user issues to down systems. Wrote customized UNIX shell scripts to help meet individual customer needs.
