Lead engineer on Smith Electric walk-in vehicle.Liason between strip chassis manufactures and Utilimaster.Responsible for all structual design, Hood, seating systems Sep08-Dec09 Senior Design Engineer in Advanced Engineering Department:New product design, cost reduction, and implementing lean engineering standards. Replaced injection molded hood tools with gated tool that allowed for more combinations of hood assemblies to be made at a cost reduction. Created standardized body assemblies that eliminated the need for a dedicated designer to create custom layouts for production every day. Directed Ford engineering in the design of F59 strip chassis to allowed Utilimaster to standardize parts with existing body. The mutual benefit was the ability to quickly implement customer specific body options originally designed for another chassis. Worked with chassis manufacturers to coordinate finite element analysis, strain testing and durability testing to resolve warrantee issue created by a chassis change. Designed composite material prototype body that had superior performance in a 20 year dynamic durability test. Utilimaster eliminated this department to focus on engineering more customer specific options to try to keep up production volume during the recession Oct 97-Nov 99 Chassis Engineer Responsible for all chassis related issues, HVAC and electrical. Manager of Structural Engineering Walk-In Vehicles:Managed group responsible for all major structural issues and designs .Responsible for ensuring that critical deadlines were met. Coordinated the implementation of new designs with part vendors, tooling manufacturers and production.Liaison with chassis OEMs including Ford, GM, Freightliner, Navistar and Workhorse. Coordinated body changes to accommodate chassis model year changes and verified completed vehicles met FMVSS guidelines. Reduced vehicle weight by 600lbs (nearly 10%) to secure business of critical customer. Company executives took a huge risk and produced the vehicles before final weight and durability of designs could be verified. The body was within 40 lbs of design weight and durability testing verified the design after hundreds of vehicles had already been completed. These vehicles are now out of the 7 year structural warrantee with no issues and the customer buys the Utilimaster product almost exclusively today.Provided engineering support directly to customers such as FedEx UPS and Frito-Lay.Plant managers often requested my help to resolve critical production issues that other engineering departments could not resolve.

• Implemented air brake system to meet FMVSS 121 standards for maximum allowed stopping distance of a class 8 truck with control line failure. • Engineered custom installations of communications systems; exhaust routings, trailer connections, air dryers, power steering coolers, seats & seatbelts, brakes, lift axle controls, electrical routings, interior kits, dash panels, automatic transmission programming and more. • Managed project to implement SQL server database work order management system. • Implemented project under $130,000 allotted budget. Engineering efficiency measurements taken 6 months after implementation revealed a return on investment of less than 1 year.
