I'm a driven and creative techno-optimist passionate about advancing precision measurement to solve real-world problems. From mapping the tiny magnetic fields of the human heart to profiling the vast kilometers of atmosphere above us, I thrive on turning innovative ideas into impactful solutions.My journey began with a master's project where I built a photonic system to induce and measure Rabi oscillations in a beam of atoms, complete with a digital twin. This experience ignited my fascination with quantum physics and measurement systems, leading me to earn a PhD from the University of Leeds. There, I delved into magnetocardiography, taking a novel device from concept through prototyping and clinical trials to a commercial spin-out. This work not only pushed the boundaries of medical diagnostics but also implemented high performance machine learning for early detection of ischemic heart disease.Entrepreneurship is where my passion meets purpose. My first startup in 2011 was an additive manufacturing service using open-source 3D printers—ahead of its time and a thrilling ride into the world of innovation. I've also developed new products and manufacturing processes for a seed-stage microfluidic device company and served as a director for a community interest corporation focused on children's education in technology, especially electronics and physics.A decade of successful tech investing enabled me to seed fund Menapia, where I now serve as CEO/CTO. We're a small, dedicated team committed to becoming the leading provider of services and hardware for robotic atmospheric profiling. Our mission is to create value for the atmospheric science and meteorological communities by closing the data gap in in-situ atmospheric observations that's currently limiting weather forecast accuracy and research potential.I'm always eager to connect with fellow innovators, technologists, and anyone passionate about using technology to make a positive impact. Phd (With Case Industrial Partnership)University Of Leeds Oct 2015 - Feb 2019Leeds, West Yorkshire, GbPhD in Cardiac Magnetic Field Mapping with Ben Varcoe at the Quantum Information Experimentation Group, University of Leeds. Funded through Scholarship (110 Program), and a CASE Industrial Partnership with Creavo Medical Technologies Ltd.Developed a novel low cost sensing device for magnetocardiography. Improved measurement performance in complex, high intensity noise environments using novel de-noising algorithms based on spatial coherence and quantum information theory. Helped to design and build first proof of concept, through to first commercial prototype. Assisted with a clinical trial of 100 participants at Leeds General Infirmary. Finished by creating a convolution neural network based classifier to diagnose presence of heart disease, with excellent results. Detection performance of non ST elevated myocardial infarction was superior to the sensitivity achievable with ECG. -

Master Of Physics With Research PlacementUniversity Of Leeds Sep 2008 - Jul 2012Leeds, West Yorkshire, GbFor 6-12 weeks of each summer during my 4 year integrated masters in Physics, I undertook research projects. In summer 2009 I built a 3D printer and designed a series of experiments to determine the mechanical properties of 3D printed materials. In 2010 I produced some optics mounts on the 3D printer, then built a Michealson-Moreley Interferometer to study their acoustic properties; comparing their stability with standard stainless steel optic mounts.In 2011 I was formally employed as a research associate, the work i undertook is described separately.During 2011/12 I undertook a masters project in the interface of experimental atomic physics and computer science. I conducted an experiment to observe rabi oscillations in a rubidium vapor using pulsed SAS. Whilst writing a simulation of rabi oscillations in an ensemble of Rubidium atoms by sampling the single atom probability distribution via monte carlo. -
Research AssociateUniversity Of Leeds Jun 2011 - Sep 2011Leeds, West Yorkshire, GbEmployed as part of a small team to design and build a diagnostic MCG (Magnetocardiogram), which is currently undergoing human trials. The device is based on technology developed by a previous PhD student of the Quantum Information Lab. I was heavily involved with the software and hardware delevopment, including extensive use of labview and python programming and the design and production of electronics.
