Currently acting as a hands-on solutions architect for a project to migrate a legacy BI system from SSRS to Tableau hosted in the AWS cloud, leveraging serverless technologies. This is a complex project that also requires me to act as tech-lead for a team of developers spread across Dublin (in house), Belarus (vendor), and Chicago (inhouse/vendor), with a focus on the infrastructure.To process this landed data on a nightly basis, I led the design and development of a complex Glue ETL Workflow involving over 150 python shell Glue jobs / 20 Spark Glue jobs. This workflow loads the transformed data into Redshift for further ingestion into Tableau.

As a member of the Dublin leadership team, I often provide thought leadership on data strategies for various teams in the Dublin and Chicago offices.I achieved significant cost optimization (SQL Server licensing, Ec2, EBS storage) by designing a project to simplify all of our database environments by consolidating from 4 servers to 2, across 25+ environments. Using a combination of PowerShell, C# and Neo4J, I re-architected our relational database environment away from batch processes to streaming change data capture.I am currently architecting an AWS Kinesis pipeline to deliver our streaming change data capture events into an S3 Data Lake for post analysis through AWS Glue/Athena, via the DMS service through an AWS Kinesis Firehose.I architected and personally developed an automated pipeline for schema evolution and data patches to make their way through all of our environments in a continuous deployment manner, using a combination of PowerShell, nAnt, and C#, with TeamCity as the runner. I managed the database migration from on-prem data centres for our databases into the cloud (AWS EC2), and then a second one from SQL Server 2008 to SQL Server 2016.I architected and managed an ongoing project to automate the complete building of new database environments, reducing the elapsed time required for a new environment from 1 day down to 90 mins.I built various POC apps to demonstrate how to leverage AWS Comprehend for NLP, Neo4J for exposing professional networks within our data, SQL Server to Aurora migration (SCT and DMS) as well as Lambda/DynamoDB streams for auditing.Through a focus on operational excellence and automation, I enabled the Firm to reduce the headcount on my team from 5 to 2.Acted as the on premise "face" of our products during rollout to our users in New York and Chicago.

My team and I built various products and services in SOA/MVC/Angular, with nHibernate as an ORM against SQL Server (for OLTP) & SOLR (for search) database backends.I built various products that ingested and processed external data from providers such as Dun & Bradstreet and LinkedIn.I designed and built a two way pipeline that allowed us to phase the deployment of our main application over a 1 year period, by synchronising critical data between the new system and its predecessor. I championed the introduction of appropriate technologies such as columnar storage and graph databases into the FirmI conducted regular code reviews, along with mentoring of team members when we require new technologies (TSQL functions and Neo4j most recently)

In this role, I architected the integration of federated web services from different government agencies.I developed a dynamic search tool using a combination of Dev Express, C#, T-SQL and CLR integration to deliver results in sub second timeframes.I acted as the single point of contact for all data layer development, creating all needed views, function, sprocs and classes (POCO & LINQ). I Represented the company at the Customer offices in Dubai, Dibbah and Fujairah ensuring the rollout went to plan.

I built and maintained several systems in Windows and Web technologies (C#, SQL 2008, SSRS) that assisted in the auditing of NAMA applications. I built an ETL system to extract information from excel spreadsheets and load into a relational debase for further processing. I introduced MSMQ to pass XML messages from one module to another, so that most activities could be automated depending upon user interaction.

I designed and built a solution in C#, SQL Server, PowerShell to upload schools data to the cloud for Microsoft's Live@Edu program. I personally enrolled 100 schools in the program and worked with them to get them into the cloud, use email, calendaring, class material distribution.I designed and built an Asp.Net/C# solution for RTE Radio to all on air broadcasters to get previews of tricky name pronunciations into their earpieces during new reports.I built and executed an ETL migration plan (SSIS) for a new Online Services portal for the Pensions Board, along with SSRS for canned reports.

I built Affordable Housing Systems for Dublin City Council (VB6/SQL Server), South Dublin County Council (C#/SQL) and various other local authorities.

Starting as a customer representative, I worked my way into a technical role by learning everything I could about Microsoft Excel, then championed the use of VBA to automate the building of daily and weekly reports; this saved hours per day and sped up the flow of information.
