I have spent over 25 years in business, starting in restaurants at age 15. I transitioned to construction, where I built on what I had learned about sales, customer service, marketing, and management. I went back to the restaurant business in 2000 when a friend of mine and I opened a Papa John's Franchise. We grew the business from one store to 5 before I sold my shares and moved on to sales. These careers have given me valuable skills and experience in marketing, customer service, business planning, and sales. Writing has always been one of my top skills, and being able to use them in these different situations has helped me develop my voice for different topics and fields. I have always been people oriented, and have extensive experience in management and customer service. I love to work with people and help them solve issues, take advantage of their unique opportunities, and help them grow. While the stress of the restaurant business grew to be more than I wanted to handle, I do miss the interaction with the people. I loved mentoring my employees and worked to instill in them a work ethic that would benefit them in their future pursuits. I miss the one on one of meeting with clients and customers (some of my pizza customers became good friends) providing them with what they expect and helping them realize their vision. I miss the camaraderie of I used to have the the contractors and skilled workers that worked with in construction and in sales. The favorite part of any job or position I have had is the chance to show off and improve my writing skills. Writing is my passion. I earned my Masters in Creative Writing in from Harvard and I am actively writing now. I have many short stories and essays that I am working on and hope to have published soon. I am also working on a book about my grandfather's experience in World War II. He was an American GI that was captured by the Germans in 1944 and spent 7 months in prison camps until the end of the war. Living in Germany has given me the unique ability to travel to the places he was taken and held captive, giving me an insight that no one else in my family has been to discover. My ultimate goal is to become and college professor and teach students of all ages how to improve their writing skills and realize their dreams of becoming a writer. My journey has been an amazing ride and to be a part of someone else's seems just too fun and fulfilling to pass up. Tutoring my students in English now has been so rewarding in this aspect, and I hope to continue that and gain valuable experience.
