I am also a member of Committee of Clerks of the West Africa Association of the Public Accounts Committee (WAAPAC) which gives the platform to share experiences with member states from both francophone and Anglophone.Through the publication of policy briefs I have recommended the proper management of the warehousing receipts and the formalization of the informal sector to strengthen Ghana’s revenue mobilization efforts. In the same vein, I have also advised Parliament to build its capacity in the area of legislation, budgeting and oversight so as to be effective in contributing to the fight against illicit flows of financial and natural resources in Ghana. With the support of STAR-Ghana, Penplusbyte, an NGO, came up with an interactive platform (Web and social media) that enabled citizens not only to interact and participate in the tracking of assurances but also help in the evaluation of implementation. Of particular interest is the feedback that citizens give to the Committee through the platform. My responsibility was to track, analyse and generate reports on citizens’ comments for the Committee. The reports were not only useful in questioning Ministers during Public Hearings but also engendered verification visits to project sites by the Committee.This enhanced citizens’ ability to hold government officials accountable and participate in governance issues. It also increased the awareness of the potential in using existing and new ICTs in holding public officials accountable. Show less
