Senior Principal ScientistGe Research, Inc. Jul 1997 - Sep 2023GE Research is one of the world’s most diversified industrial research labs, providing innovative technology for all of GE’s businesses. GE Research has been the cornerstone of GE technology for more than 100 years, developing breakthrough innovations in areas such as medical imaging, energy generation technology, jet engines and lighting. GE Research is headquartered in Niskayuna, New York.We employ researchers searching to uncover the next technological breakthroughs that will change the landscape for the GE businesses and the world. Our diverse set of technology expertise ranges from electronics to chemistry, biosciences to computing, metallurgy to fluid mechanics, materials to imaging– and everything in between. In my role, I am responsible for scientific review of projects and also as a project leader. I have been Principal Investigator on multiple external grants (NIH, DTRA, NIJ, DARPA), and I thrive when developing new ideas. I am inventor on 62 issued US patents. I have been a reviewer on 36 NIH study sections. I am particularly proud of the work to develop random-primed amplification using phi29 DNA Polymerase (TempliPhi, GenomiPhi and more recent applications), terminal-phosphate labeled nucleotides (used by Pacific Biosciences and Genia), and the endonuclease V-based isothermal PCR reaction that has yet to see a commercial application, and the DNA vaccine work that is ongoing (2017-2020).

Postdoctoral ResearcherUniversity Of Rochester May 1995 - Jul 1997Rochester, Ny, UsI characterized both DNA Polymerase zeta (Science. 1996 Jun 14;272(5268):1646-9) and the deoxycytidyl transferase (Nature. 1996 Aug 22;382(6593):729-31) enzymes during my postdoc. My work with DNA Polymerase zeta was the first demonstration of a eukaryotic translesion synthesis DNA Polymerase, and we showed that it was a heterodimer of Rev3 and Rev7 proteins. The deoxycytidyl transferase (Rev1 protein) was incredibly exciting, as the first of a whole new family of DNA Polymerases.
