An automotive technician by trade, I've always been interested in how things work. Understanding how a single component operates in a system is only part of the story; understanding the wholistic operation of complex systems, how each component interacts and affects another is where I really find my interests. There are few things that I enjoy more than tearing things apart and getting down to a true understanding of how they operate, and more importantly, how to fix them. This ideology has held true throughout my educational career as well. In design I look to solve problems through a fine lens, diving deep into the logical underpinnings rather than a strictly aesthetic focus. My systematic approach to architecture has lead me to a strong interest in urban planning and more specifically, I have been drawn to research for affordable housing. While an undergrad at UCLA I was awarded a fellowship with cityLAB, a think tank in the basement of UCLA's Architecture department. While working for cityLAB I produced research materials and compiled data on precedents of affordable housing for teachers on school owned lands. This work is now being used to spearhead further research and planning phases for a number of potential sites in the Bay Area and California.
