During my five years as Head of Electrical Engineering with Mainstream Renewable Power, I have worked on the development of Mainstream’s 10GW pipeline of on-shore wind and Solar projects around the world including Canada, USA, South Africa, Chile and Ireland. I have also worked on the off-shore wind projects Scotland, Great Britain and Germany. My role on the development of these projects includes understanding the different grid connection processes and electrical grid codes, development One Line Diagrams, completing grid connection applications, evaluating grid connection options, negotiating with grid Companies, engaging consultants and completing electrical studies (Load flow, short circuit, harmonic analysis, dynamic studies etc.) to ensure compliance with grid codes and to ensure best practice on all projects.

The Power Plant Division with a staff of 120 professional engineers was responsible for all new and refurbished ESB power plants built both in Ireland and internationally and all consultancy work carried out by ESBI around the world. The Power Plant Division also included the renewable energy group Aertech which was responsible for the design, procurement, construction/commissioning of all ESB wind projects built in Ireland. A sample of the Major projects undertaken during his time as Head of the Power Plant Division of ESBI include the design and construction of the 450MW Amorebieta Combined Cycle Gas Turbine Power Plant is Spain, Aghada 436MW Alstom GT26 Combined Cycle Gas Turbine Power Plant in Ireland, Refurbishment/ Retrofit of the 900MW Coal fired Power Plant in Ireland, Project Management services to ESKOM Enterprises in the design and construction of 2,000MW of open cycle gas turbine power plants in South Africa.During my career in ESB International I worked on all aspects of Power generation from design through construction, pre-commissioning, commissioning and de-commissioning. I worked on all types of generation including coal, peat, oil, gas turbine (simple and combined cycle) and renewable energy. I worked in many Countries including a two year assignment in Saudi Arabia.
