Reporting to the manufacturing manager responsible for making improvements and providing support to both the manufacturing & maintenance facilities located nationally and abroad.Responsibilities:• Assist in tender process for passenger and locomotive rolling stock.• Perform feasibility studies & Plant layouts across the Downer manufacturing facilities to determine the most cost effective process to produce passenger rolling stock.• Compile capital expenditure appraisal proposals for projects, new product and process improvements.• Prepare cost reduction proposals and perform capacity studies for specific projects • Support the OHS Zero Harm Safety Program• Provide technical assistance for Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) products• Contribute towards BOM Maintenance ProgramKey Achievements:• Supported the bid management team promoting local manufacture stating the most appropriate solution of manufacture through the utilization of alternative manufacturing facilities.• Provided critical cost analysis with the identification of major components and non contributing elements during the manufacture the QR passenger and locomotive rolling stock• Presentation of major capital works for the automation of construction of a stabling yard for testing and commissioning for both passenger and locomotive rolling stock• Created a PPP Supplier Capacity reporting tool for the management of critical components for the Waratah Project.• Leadership and technical assistance during the first article inspection on Passenger Train GRP cab front.• Commissioning of a new maintenance facility & infrastructure (Servicing of freight wagons & locomotives (200m Project ). The focus of the role was the set up of automatic production machines and overseeing the operators producing various water meter components. The role was hands on trade based working closely with the automatic machines centres and production personnel of specialised components.

Provided general mechanical preventative maintenance support for the news print mill involving repair and manufacture of new and replacement parts, servicing, maintaining pneumatic & hydraulic equipment (IE: cylinders, valves, pumps, hydraulics, crushers, conveyors & the like). The role was hands on, trade based.

Manufacturing various patterns, die and vacuum moulds for the automotive industry. Also worked in the tool room as required on special purpose tooling.

Learning the trade and acquiring the skills required to operate the tool room equipment & machinery.
