I broke this up into 3 phases:o Rest and Recovery (2 months). I had completed an extremely intense (though wonderful) experience at Hobsons, and I wanted to take some time in-between jobs. I did some travel and living in other parts of the US, got healthier, took care of some personal goals, etc.o Training, coding and sabbatical (3 months). I decided to use this time to do a lot of reading, hands on coding in React, Node, Python; explore different management related tracks, etc. to invest in myself.o Job searching (3 months). After that, I began searching for a new job.It was a fantastic experience I would never trade!

• Managed annual budgeting, and capitalized development and operational expenses.• Rolled out a new product using best engineering practices on time under an aggressive schedule. This included CI/CD and rapid deployments from the beginning with 97% unit test coverage and 90% BDD feature coverage. It also included linting, security scans, and blocking failing check-ins. • Introduced augmented offshore development to the company without risking any existing team members. - Directed a mobile fleet location-based SaaS product using MongoDB, Spring, Hibernate, Java, Oracle and Redis. Managed an analytics data warehouse using Rails, Ruby and MongoDB. Significantly improved performance. Led a real-time vehicle finance location-based SaaS application using PHP, Javascript, jQuery and MySQL. Converted a device application and Internet of Things (IoT) management platform. Spearheaded all 8 of the company’s iOS, Android and mobile web applications via offshoring.- Brought a stronger agile focus with Scrum and its best practices. Trained the team and six new scrum masters. Significantly improved scrum and agile adoption, reduced cycle times with on-time releases and higher quality.- Received the Mentor/Leader of the Year Award for team building and cross-training efforts, promoting a new level of performance and customer service within the team. Constantly trained the organization on new technologies.

- Invited to return to manage a team of engineers developing a web-based Complex Event Processing (CEP) product. The product was primarily Java-based, but also utilized jQuery, Spring MVC, Spring, and Hibernate.- Rolled out the Scrum agile process into business unit’s product development group leading to far smoother releases, quality and productivity. Conducted sprint planning, execution, demos and retrospectives.- Provided overall cross-functional program and project management with India and Redwood City teams to make sure releases were on time. Delivered the first major release on time with risks identified and mitigated early.

- Developed webMethods based solutions in a mission critical Enterprise Architecture leveraging the webMethods Enterprise Service Bus, JMS with ActiveMQ, SOA and Web Services, and an Enterprise Data Warehouse.- Programmed Web Service services and client invocations with web services and Tomcat.

- Developed a complex Ruby on Rails application as part of a small team of developers in a start-up. This application is social software for business hosted as Software as a Service (SAAS).- Developed a Workflow and Task Management solution that spanned multiple businesses.- Developed a geographic solution that allowed end users to locate service offerings within a certain distance of their homes. Integrated with TeleAtlas and made pluggable to use other providers. This service was exposed as a RESTful API while the integration to TeleAtlas required the use of SOAP and WSDL.

- Invited by previous webMethods manager to join them at this company.- Architected and developed the Security related feature to fully integrate 3rd Party authentication providers, such as LDAP, SiteMinder, and Active Directory, along with other security aspects. Developed using Spring, Spring MVC, JAAS, SiteMinder, Hibernate, REST, JSPs, JSTL, LDAP, JNDI and JDBC in Tomcat and WebLogic containers. Worked on creating a REST-based API for 3rd Parties to access RulePoint.- Created architectural approaches in the following areas: Security, I18N, Promotion and Deployment, Namespace, Source Code Control Integration, Journal and Audit Logging, Connection Pooling, Distributed Configuration, Monitoring and Clustering.

- Led two Engineering teams developing a multi-tier end-point security product in both Luxembourg and Herndon (14 engineers). The product consisted of drivers, GUI, and server components. Significantly improved the morale, productivity, and synergy of my teams.- Introduced many engineering best practices, removed numerous productivity and quality obstacles, developed a more cohesive organization and significantly improved morale. Most of my time was spent in Luxembourg with a team from seven different countries where English was a second language.- Designed a hybrid Agile development process based upon the needs and current abilities of the overall Product Development organization. Rolled the process out, established buy-in at all levels, and guided the team in adopting (starting with use cases).- Introduced and improved project management significantly. Introduced project management tools and systems and performed project management for the release. Provided accurate release date estimates, drove previously hidden deliverables and surfaced and resolved numerous roadblocks and risks to the success of the project.- Provided a detailed assessment of the necessary improvements needed by this organization (Agile and otherwise) to the CEO and began rolling them out.

- Led a cross-functional mix of engineering teams for the Genesis project, an ambitious precursor to webMethods Fabric that focused on realizing a metadata-based Model Driven Architecture (MDA) solution for business analysts to developers built on top of a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). This matrixed team consisted of 20 individuals in multiple geographical locations.- Managed the Integration Server, one of the first B2B products that provided the foundation for webMethods product offerings, Enterprise SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) and Web services. Total team size was around 13 engineers.- Managed and developed code for webMethods Developer, a Java Swing-based IDE (Integrated Development Environment) for creating SOA services on Integration Server. Also managed TN Console, a tool for Trading Partner management. Led the integration of an acquired company’s Swing-based IDE into Developer with a geographically dispersed team of 11 engineers.- Led the Engineering Lifecycle (ELC) process, and represented the ELC at the Product Lifecycle (PLC) process committee. Moved the company further away from waterfall-type approaches to more agile, iterative, yet structured development approaches for whole product.- Represented webMethods at the Eclipse Foundation member meetings.

- As part of a team, designed, developed, and provided management oversight for a global Web-based architecture for the military’s medical evacuation system. This system used Java.- Created the Swing-based UI for this system, and acted as a Java/Object mentor for many members of the team.- Served as a Project Manager, with personnel, financial (Earned Value Management System), scheduling, configuration management, and technical lead responsibilities.

- Worked with Sun to design J2EE’s JavaMail API via Rational.- Designed and programmed various GroupWise 5.0 Client features in Windows via C++. Created requirements and design for GroupWise’s Java-based Server API. This framework encompassed Java, RMI, JavaServer, WebLogic, and CORBA.- Developed and taught Novell’s NetWare Client-Server Programming, a one-week course on NetWare programming. Attained Certified Netware Instructor (CNI) status. Presented sessions at Novell’s BrainShare Conference on GroupWise’s extension APIs.

- Developed and maintained the Space Shuttle’s Onboard Flight Control software system. The Space Shuttle software system, developed by a SEI Level 5 Organization (one of three in the world at that time), is acknowledged worldwide as the highest quality software system ever produced.- Led the team that tested the shuttle’s orbital software that allowed it to dock with the Russian space station MIR, with numerous other flight control changes.- Played a leadership role in improving and developing the test and inspection processes (led the latter).
