My role was to support the General Manager in the operation of the store by managing the non-food operation of the business by carrying out the following:Overseeing and authourising Makro Mail order quantities.Recruitment, training and developing store staff.Maintaining department standards through compliance.Training and development of non-food team.Ensuring compliance to Health and Safety.

In five years with B&Q I covered two Assistant Manager roles. One which covered stock control and replenishment and the other which covered front end and administration. Having the opportunity to operate in both roles aided my own personal development. During this time I had the opportunity to work in a seconded role within Head Office as part of New Store Development. Previous to this I championed the implementation of a new stock management system, while Stock Assistant Manager and the implementation of electronic customer ordering system while Operations Assistant Manager. In my time in Kilmarnock, the store was also the regional and divisional winner for store standards in 2004.

This was my first role as a Manager after completing Homebase's Management training scheme.
