June 14, 2024This past November, I was honoured to be named as President and CEO of the New Brunswick Business Council. I know many of you are already aware that I am in the process of taking on a new challenge in the coming months. I will be leaving my role as President and CEO of the New Brunswick Business Council, in the coming weeks. The Executive of the Business Councill will be announcing the name of the Council’s new Chief Executive in the comings days. I can assure you that the new President and CEO is a dynamic and well thought of New Brunswicker, who is poised to lead the Council’s next chapter. I am very grateful to have been entrusted to steward the activities of the Council this past year. The women and men who are Members of the Council, care passionately about the social and economic progress of New Brunswick. It is why the Council exists, to affect change by bringing people together to meet our collective challenges and help seize opportunities to better the lives of New Brunswickers. The Business Council's role is integral to the success of our province. Business at it's best is an agent of prosperity and vital to our social progress. To have a progressive society, New Brunswick’s businesses need to be successful to generate the wealth to support and fund social progress. The NBBC understands that, business does not exist in a vacuum: it is influenced by what’s happening in our communities and society and can be a powerful enabler of solutions in the public interest. My work for the Council, until my date of departure on September 1, will largely be logistical to prepare and help with the transition for the Council’s new CEO.

Served a 10-year term as a Board Member for the New Brunswick Energy and Utilities Board. Provincial Cabinet appointed member of the full-time five-person board; a quasi-judicial tribunal with the same powers that are vested in the Court of King’s Bench in relation to procedural, evidentiary and enforcement matters: • Provide private energy sector acumen to hearings and decisions.• Implemented improved public communications and transparency. • Advocate for performance metrics.

Recruited as a member and subsequently appointed Co-Chair to facilitate quarterly meetings with recognized provincial leaders from disparate groups such as the private sector, non-governmental agencies, and academia. Led discussions to identify common ground and provide thought leadership to inform provincial policy including literacy, natural resources, immigration and the role of social media in consultation.

Appointed President in 2011, successfully evolved the strategic mandate of the organization, whose board consisted of leading executives from the private sector, academia, community and government, to more effectively influence and inform the private sector, governments and the public at large on regional energy policy: • Pro-actively externalized thought leadership of board members through published discussion pieces. • Fostered new partnerships and strengthened engagement with existing stakeholders to develop more holistic approach to energy sector policy.• Collaborated with corporate executives and senior government officials across parties and borders to influence and effect change in energy-related issues including policy development, governance and communication.The Centre serves as a bridge between corporations and the community to help realize the opportunities associated with the energy sector in Atlantic Canada and the American Northeast. It provides a meeting ground for government, the education and research sectors, and the community at large to foster partnerships and engagement in energy-related issues and policy development.

• Leveraged the cross-functional strengths of Aliant’s various divisions to develop creative solutions tailored to the unique needs of enterprise clients.• Participated in and led a series of teams to develop RFPs, establish next generation technology pilot projects for service development, and other sales and marketing initiatives.• Managed team dedicated to Security Policy, Standards and Emergency Preparedness.

In addition to supporting the needs of the constituency and working collaboratively with the government in power, provided national leadership as:• Seven-year member of the Standing Committee on the Environment and Sustainable Development, including a term as Vice-Chair. • Lead spokesperson on Post-Secondary Education for the former Progressive Conservative Party of Canada, advocating for increased core federal funding to address tuition challenges, university infrastructure needs and publicly funded research.• Steward of a series of public policy forums on behalf of the Right Honourable Joe Clark; safe drinking water, democratic reform, and foreign affairs.

Recognized sales leader with successive management accountability culminating in Regional Manager role in April 1993:• Built and led a dedicated team to supply company steel products to industries including pulp and paper, metal fabricators, breweries, food processing, and mining sectors. • Accountable for budgeting, forecasting, marketing, human resources, and plant operations.• Achieved annual sales growth of almost 50%; $2.8 million (1993), $4.7 million (1994), $6.7 million 1995.In addition to sales role, was given project management accountability in April 1995 for the company’s largest contract at over $30 million; Hibernia Offshore (HMDC):• By effectively triaging issues and focusing on details and the projects critical path, delivered project on time and on budget; establishing the company’s reputation to win future contracts.• Accountable for project logistics, quality control ISO 9000, principal vendor liaison for international sub-contractors and vendors from Europe and North America.
