Whether I am working in a professional environment or at home, I have been developing software since 2010 for personal hobby and 4 years in a professional environment.I learn quickly in my field and rapidly apply what I learn for software and web development to code as well as the other skills needed to function in an IT and development environment. When I want to learn a new programming language, library/API, or paradigm, I learn through researching while applying what I am currently researching into small example (test) projects and build the final product.I originally began by teaching myself video game development at home on my off-time. I have learned a lot about software architecture, programming language structure, and object oriented programming. I have also recently learned methods during development stages to look ahead at what can be done to reduce memory footprint and to optimize for speed once I have a working set of code. Example, I was tasked to continue efforts in grabbing car wash statistics from a database, and then sending SMTP emails and text messages in HTML/Text format with the summarized and calculated results to operation management. After getting the emailer to work again from the last crew, I also managed to cut down the time it takes for the information to pull to the time the last email sends out from 3 minutes to just 5 seconds by refactoring a handful of lines of code in C#. I reduced the use of multiple and repeated temporary variables allocated in memory at a time. That alone saved the almost 3 minutes of running time for the emailer.I have very recently been converting a lot of C# web software and services into Node JS servers and clients. I find node runs much faster for this sort of development, is built on top of the V8 engine in C++, and has thousands of libraries in the NPM repository for pretty much any situation. That coupled with Loopback/SQL Connectors/AngularJS makes production time fly!
