At the research institute, John-Paul produced important and often ground-breaking papers on issues related to Canadian families, family law and access to justice. John-Paul returned to private practice with the closure of the research institute in 2018. He now provides dispute resolution services, children's legal services and independent legal advice as a sole practitioner. He was appointed Queen's Counsel, now King's Counsel, in 2019.
