John-Paul E. Boyd, KC is an accredited family law arbitrator, mediator and parenting coordinator, providing services throughout Alberta and British Columbia, and counsel to Wise Scheible Barkauskas.John-Paul practiced family law as a litigator, arbitrator, collaborative lawyer, mediator and parenting coordinator in Vancouver for fourteen years before joining the Canadian Research Institute for Law and the Family at the University of Calgary as its executive director in 2013. At the research institute, John-Paul produced important and often ground-breaking papers on issues related to Canadian families, family law and access to justice. John-Paul returned to private practice with the closure of the research institute in 2018. He now provides dispute resolution services, children's legal services and independent legal advice as a sole practitioner. He was appointed Queen's Counsel, now King's Counsel, in 2019.
