I now lead a small team of investigators tackling rogue trading that originates in Brighton & Hove.

The company trades as ‘The Furniture Ombudsman' and now ‘The Rail Ombudsman’. Initially specialising in Alternative Dispute Resolution Services for consumers and retailers in the furniture, home improvement and floor coverings industries we now provide ADR to rail passengers.I represent the Board on the Standards Board who scrutinise the adjudications to ensure they are fair and reasonable. The Standards Board also oversees the rules, practices and procedures.

NAFN is an unincorporated - not for profit organisation - hosted by two local authorities (Tameside MBC and Brighton & Hove City Council) that- acquires data legally and efficiently for local authority services- acts as the hub for the collection, collation and circulation of intelligence alerts,- provides access to best practice examples of process, forms and procedures.NAFN is recognised by members and key stakeholders as a centre of excellent dedicated to supporting its members in protecting the public purse from fraud abuse and error. Each Board Member has a lead responsibility and my role is to lead in the development of services to support Trading Standards and widen the organisations sphere of influence with other local authority regulatory teams.

I am extremely pleased to be offered a position as Non Executive Director of The Institute of Kitchen, Bedroom & Bathroom Installers Ltd (IKBBI).iKBBI's aim is to improve standards within the installation industry and help address the increasing number of consumer complaints received each year. IKBBI work with manufacturers, suppliers and professional installers of kitchen, bedroom & bathroom products to introduce and maintain standards within the sector.Accreditation of members ensures that they stand out from thousands of installers who simply fail to meet criteria or those who are out to blatantly damage the reputation of professional tradesmen and take advantage of unsuspecting consumers.I am pleased to be involved particularly as the Institute is championing apprenticeships as mechanism for getting young people into the industry.'

Undertaking auditing of potential Alternative Dispute Resolution entities and devising online training material

Lead Officers are trading standards professionals who are specialists in their field. Individuals work with the Institute, dedicating their time to ensuring they are fully briefed and up to date in their relevant specialism. They use this knowledge and insight to inform TSI policy, work with the media and are extremely active in government discussions and consultations.

The Trading Standards Institute performs an important and influencing role in engaging with, and making representations to government, UK and EU Parliamentary institutions and key stakeholders in local government, community, business and consumer sectors and other regulatory sectors. It aims to sustain and improve consumer protection, health and wellbeing, together with the enforcement of fair markets, facilitating business competitiveness and success. As part of the leadership team the individual helps shape its vision and sets the strategic plan. The Immediate Past Chair supports the Chair to perform their duties, assists in the appointment of the Board of Directors sitting on the Remuneration & Appointments Committee.

Together with the Chief Executive and Chairman of the Board the Chairman leads the Institute, shaping its vision and setting the strategic plan. The Chairman and Council act as the voice of the membership and are responsible for holding the Board and Executive to account.

The Standards Board acts to regulate how the organisation operates. Members regularly review a cross section of our adjudications to ensure they are both fair and reasonable. It also oversees the rule, practices and procedures.

I managed a team of highly skilled investigators assisting 62 Local Authority Trading Standards Services to tackle cross border crime

I started in East Sussex as a trainee Weights & Measures Inspector qualifying in 1979. I was a Trainee Supervisor before developing a Fraud Investigation role. I became a Team Manager in Brighton in the late 80's before taking on an Area manager role shortly before local governemnt reorganistion.
