I was twenty-one years old and working with my father at Professional Design Systems (PDS), our software company developing desktop applications for CPA's, public accounting and tax preparation firms. My dad was the programmer and I wrote the software operating manuals and promotional materials.In 1998 PDS was acquired by a division of Thomson Reuters Corporation. Having two youngsters at that time, my wife and I had typical questions of new parents concerning their children's health. The Internet held limited material on health conditions at that point, with effectively nothing to be found on healthcare providers or practices.I co-founded MedNet Technologies (MedNet) in 1999 to develop websites for physicians and dentists. I researched health conditions, treatments and procedures, and wrote the content used on client websites. The early days were spent selling new customers, with nights and weekends manually building custom websites, one at a time.By 2013 MedNet had grown to just under 60 employees and had built more than 3,500 websites for dental, medical and veterinary practices. Our company was the largest in our market segment. But the website development process was inefficient as it routinely took months to launch even small websites. I began leveraging the Patient Education Library of more than 6,800 health conditions that I had developed by integrating the content within our custom software platform for automated website creation. This new application greatly increased MedNet's efficiency and improved quality control. Websites could now be completed in just hours.The initiative eventually evolved into the DIY website platform that is Dr. Leonardo®.MedNet was acquired in 2015; I retained the Dr. Leonardo platform and sitebuilder application.No longer simply marketing vehicles, Dr. Leonardo websites are now provider and patient gateways with integrations with dozens of software different products.
