Managed cold chain vaccine distribution in remote desert areas; conducted live radio interviews in French to promote the polio campaign's goals and combat anti-vaccine rumors; worked with local physicians to supervise mobile vaccination teams; implemented novel "Soap for Vaccinators" program; evaluated the performance of three districts for the WHO central office in Niamey.

Conducted active surveillance of two tick-borne diseases in southern Connecticut. Managed and updated an EpiInfo database. Tested human sera for evidence of infection with Francisella tularensis, a tick-borne bacterium. Produced a newsletter on emerging tick-borne diseases.

Special focus on pharmaceutical, retail, mining and commodities industries. Developed an extensive network of confidential sources within and outside of the companies covered. Reporting included frequent contact with the individuals and companies covered. Fact-checked other reporters’ work prior to publication. Wrote feature stories on international business personalities.

Taught undergraduate courses in print journalism and media history. Planned course syllabi, including reading lists and practical assignments. Designed and taught a senior-level media history course focused on the role of correspondents and government propaganda during the US Civil War, Belgian King Leopold's colonization of the Congo Free State, the Vietnam War and Watergate. Tutored students in writing; advised students on career options.
