My name is John Proetta and I am native to East Islip, New York (Long Island). I graduated from SUNY Potsdam in 2010 with a Chemistry major and Biology minor. Currently, I live in Potsdam and serve as an adjunct instructor with the SUNY Potsdam Chemistry department. I am a lab instructor for Quantitative Analysis, Organic Chemistry 1 & 2, and General Chemistry 1 & 2. As a faculty member, I serve as a Research Assistant, Founder and Event Chair of Chemtoberfest!, Chair of Public Relations for the Northern New York chapter of the American Chemical Society (ACS), voting member of Faculty Senate, and honorary member of Phi Kappa Pi. My undergraduate research work focused primarily on Organic Chemistry (Friedel-Crafts Transacylation of Triflate-catalysed Reactions), Green Chemistry (Green Chemistry Laboratory Curriculum Development through the DEC/PPA), and Analytical/Nanotechnology (Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells and Graphene-based Nanomaterials. I was involved with both of my departments and served as a tutor and TA through the Student Success Center (SSC) and Student Support Services (SSS). My experience as a tutor opened doors to Campus Life, where I served as a Mentor and Resident Assistant for First Year Students.
