For most of the past decade, I have covered the business beat in Galesburg, part of a micropolitan area of more than 70,000. I write stories that analyze business trends, illustrate public/private partnerships in economic development, as well as covering local appearances by such business giants as BNSF Railway President and CEO Matt Rose.I also am the reporter who covers Galesburg Community Unit School District 205, the largest public school district in our region. District 205 is currently in the midst of a $110 million, 20-year project known as Operation Rebuild-Achievement, which is bringing schools up-to-date, both in terms of physical plants, as well as technology.I have analyzed how the finances meant to support the project are holding up as inflation gradually raises construction costs, as well as reporting on the progress of work at each of the 11 schools in the district.

I am currently the business reporter at The Register-Mail, although I have covered all of the beats, including police/courts, politics, city government, county government and education. Right now, I cover the largest public school district in our region. I also write two Sunday columns and a daily weather blog.My love is good journalism and at this award-winning newspaper, that's the only kind we do.

I asked to be reassigned to a reporter's position, because of health problems I had at the time. Those are since cleared up & I am now back in an editor's position, as business editor.
