Director of Engineering for the Optical Sensors and Metrology Division within Nordson Corporation. I manage the algorithm, and software engineering groups at Cyber Optics. Responsible for project definition, people management, mentoring, coaching for roughly 15 people. Our Software and Algorithm teams are creating technological differentiators in our markets. We practice agile and create reusable components. We have recently refactored some of our largest applications. In this project , we have reduced our time to integrate new sensors from 1-2 human years to 1-2 human weeks.

Algorithm, physics, and software lead for DARPA OneShot program to develop a revolutionary fire control and wind measurement system for snipers. Identified gaps in team’s physics knowledge, worked with world experts in atmospheric propagation of light to fill team knowledge gaps. Identified and executed experiments to quantify limitations of technology, and therein explained several bad data collections. Identified hardware requirements for system to achieve real time results on hardware. Led software team which completed all tasks on time and budget. System performed as expected on hardware and was demonstrated in live fire tests. System has been tested by DARPA and shown to dramatically improve probability of hit by snipers at extremely long ranges.System is entering low rate initial production in 2011. Co author of 3 patent applications in this area. Developed new Sniper Tactics that will greatly increase their effectiveness and covertness. Expect tactics to be field tested in early 2011.

Led a multi-disciplinary internally funded R&D team to implement a software autonomous air vehicle mission execution system that manages sensors and air vehicle flight routes to achieve a diverse set of mission objectives while interacting with a human. System participated in Maritime Domain Awareness experiments in 2007 and 2008.System integrated in 2010 into two live data collection nodes in south pacific, turned nodes into autonomous collection nodes controlling EO/IR cameras.Created and patented a solution to the problems associated with attribution (aka pedigree) in distributed data fusion systems. Supported ongoing work in situation understanding and situational awareness.

Airborne Mission System section author of $2 billion Lockheed Martin BAMS proposal. Coordinated work of several other authors. Received a green rating from customer on section, and on critical personnel list for contract.Program Manager for special access program. Took over when originator left company on poor terms, kept program and got follow on contract. All cost/technical goals met.Integrated Product Team lead and software architect for Maritime Mission System. Internally funded demonstration unmanned aircraft mission system that served as the basis for the BAMS proposal. Led team of 40 system, mechanical, hardware, sensor and software engineers along with 8 major subcontractors to create an extremely low cost demonstration system to meet most of the surface warfare needs of the BAMS program. Participated in Trident Warrior 2006 and received letter of commendation from the navy for the effort.

Lead technical executor on a variety of research and development projects. Developed algorithms to implement mathematical models to solve numerous signal processing problems for research contracts. Including:A novel mechanism for dealing template confusion in automatic target recognition of Synthetic Aperture Radar imagery. In the process, created a 200 machine cluster using idle CPU cycles in facility.Performance estimation of data fusion (multi-target tracking) systems. Developed new mathematical models and metrics to address the issues of missing targets.Proposed Multi-Level Security architecture for the CVN-77 radio room.Tracking of exoatmospheric vehicles in clutter. Implemented first ever particle system implementation of the Probability Hypothesis Density Function. Submitted trade secret for novel resampling method to deal with particle resampling errors.Implemented classified processing modes for the MX-20 EO/IR turret for the P-3 aircraft. Learned VXWorks and Mercury Common Operating System to implement algorithm on embedded 12 CPU cluster.
