John R. Kitch is a writer and filmmaker residing in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area.​In 2013, Kitch graduated with a Bachelor of the Arts Degree in Digital Filmmaking and Video Production from the Art Institutes International – Kansas City.Kitch was the director for "Team What's In The Box?" for the 48 Hour Film Challenges in Kansas City and Des Moines. They created the short films "Blood Iron" (Kansas City 2012), "Feelgood" (Des Moines 2013), and "General Justice" (Kansas City 2013). "General Justice" garnered two awards for Best Writing and Best Choreography. The team won four awards for their 2013 National Film Challenge entry, "Good Morning, Justin", including runner-up for the sponsored Go-Pro Challenge. Kitch has also completed assignments with the Media Team for the Kansas City FilmFest, creating a series of interviews with guest filmmakers.HIs short documentary "Drive-ins Driven Out?" has gone on to play in major Midwestern film festivals. "Sizzled", another short film, was also an official selection of Kansas City FilmFest 2014 by way of the Kansas City Fringe Fest.In August 2018, Kitch completed post production on "12th Floor", the first full-length feature film produced by my independent production company. "12th Floor" was honored as an official selection of Kansas City FilmFest International 2019.He has written copy for CinemaKC (an indie film showcase airing on PBS affiliate KCPT), completing content for their website and press releases. He has also worked with various independent film companies and productions, especially with Alicia Smith of Cheesegirl Productions, Barry Wilson of Wilson Art & Video, and Nicholas Young of Nicholas Young Films (formerly Cairn Productions). With Nicholas Young Films, He has completed copy and assisted with media business writing, as well as co-written a short screenplay, "Toy Cars", which was developed into the short film "Boy in Between" (selected and screened at Kansas City Filmfest International in 2021).Kitch continues to work in independent filmmaking, assist productions, and write articles, short stories, and novels. He is always seeking to branch out farther into creative corporate work that covers both written and visual media. He is dedicated to excellence in word-craft and research, aiming to reach an emotional core with every reader, viewer, and listener, no matter the format or genre. Through his frequent collaborations, Kitch understands and appreciates the value of teamwork, and he is eager to supply important assets to any and all teams he joins.
