Responsible for Electrical and Mechanical Engineering of new professional floor care equipment for the North American market. Equipment designs vary in complexity from small corded vacuums to large battery ride-on equipment. Products are designed with large amounts of custom designed parts including rotationally molded plastic, injection molded plastic, blow molded plastic, steel and aluminum castings, sheet metal, PCB's, wire harnesses, HMI's, sensor packages, custom motors and other electromechanical components. Products are designed for a variety of applications and industries such as hard floor scrubbing, dry vacuuming of carpet, wet carpet extraction, orbital scrubbing, hard floor burnishing/polishing, disinfecting, cleaning small hotel rooms to large areas such as airport concourses, casinos, schools, etc.Core responsibilities include: defining electronics and mechanical architecture for new products, hiring/firing/promotion decisions, staffing projects and ensuring project metrics for cost and schedule are achieved, technical review and approval of all mechanical and electrical designs, troubleshooting and resolution of difficult problems during the development process, project management of smaller scope projects, perform R&D of new cleaning technologies and implement new technologies into products, coordinate efforts with third party vendors, conduct DFMEA/Design 3P/DFM/DFA on all new product designs, coordinate regulatory design and testing activities, standardize design and test requirements/procedures across Karcher North America engineering locations, implement lean product development practices and procedures, improve prototyping capabilities and efficiencies, and improve worker skillsets.
