John L. Rivkin is a Partner in Rivkin Radler's Insurance Coverage & Litigation and Litigation & Appeals Practice Groups. Mr. Rivkin represents, on a national basis, many of the largest domestic and international insurance companies in their declaratory relief actions, domestic and international arbitrations and claims. He serves as Liaison Counsel and Steering Committee Counsel in some of the largest insurance coverage actions now pending. Throughout his more than thirty years of practice, Mr. Rivkin has advised clients in Austria, Germany, Belgium, England, Ireland and throughout the United States. He has been actively involved in litigating and arbitrating environmental matters relating to losses projected to exceed 5 billion dollars. He has litigated and arbitrated matters involving a vast array of contaminants such as MTBE, PCB's, TCE, PERC, arsenic, mercury, mold and asbestos.

He was responsible for groundbreaking legal decisions preventing villages from regulating navigable waterways under British land patents dating back to the 1600's. His work paved the way for greater commercial usage of waterfront property including usage by yacht clubs, marinas and the maritime service industry.Mr. Rivkin is a member of the National Litigation Panel for the University of Virginia School of Law and a distinguished Lecturer of Law at the University of Virginia School of Law ("Complex Insurance Litigation"), an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Hofstra University School of Law ("Complex Insurance Litigation") and has served for many years as a moot court judge for the University of Virginia School of Law. He is also a United States Merchant Marine Officer. He holds a United States Coast Guard 100 Ton Master's License.
