In 2011 I retired from 22 years as a high-tech entrepreneur. During those years I worked with wonderful people and together we built three successful venture-backed businesses which collectively created over one thousand jobs and launched pioneering products in the commercial email industry. The first company went public way back in 1995, and my most recent company, where I was CEO, was acquired in 2008 for the highest valuation multiples yet seen in the industry. I kept running the company until our parent company was acquired by eBay in 2011. It was a fun ride. Before that I was an officer in the US Navy for over 6 years with half of that time spent at sea on an aircraft carrier, and the other half in an engineering role ashore. I have a degree in Aeronautical/Astronautical Engineering from MIT, and an MBA.I owe a great debt to the leaders I worked with and learned from in my early days, and an even greater debt to the people who worked for me over the years. It was a great privilege first to serve our country, and then to build three successful businesses with amazing people. At RISE I get to scratch my engineering DNA, build a unique business model for an economically self-sustaining non-profit, but moreover do something incredibly important for our planet. Having been a certified scuba diver for over 40 years I simply hate lionfish. When I heard about RISE I immediately saw the importance of the mission and jumped right in. Once again I’m working with amazing people, and this will only grow. Not to mention, as we say in New England, it’s just wicked cool.Now working with Second Chance Cars I get to combine my lifelong "car guy" obsession with my drive to help veterans and returning citizens improve their financial stability and career success by supporting their mobility to do so. The life-changing results we are seeing when someone is awarded a low cost and reliable vehicle is some of the most rewarding work I have ever done.
