Senior Process EngineerMott Macdonald Bentley | Mmb Jun 2011 - Aug 2020Peterborough, United KingdomWhile working within the @one Alliance I worked within the flow compliance, maintenance and growth& Enhancement program areas. Each program area took al client brief through Feasibility study, to option selection, to detailed design and into construction and process commissioning.During the Project Feasibility stage I carried out an initial desktop study comprising gathering of all available site data, raw data analysis and initial Process Capacity Calculations for each project. I conducted Site investigation visits to verify data and confirm any assumptions. I produced Process Audit Reports along with a Basis of Design documents and a Process Flow Diagrams prior to meeting with the client to carry out a root cause analysis for compliance with both current and future flow and sanitary consents and to agree any options for further investigation. During the option selection stage I produced outline process designs, including a site layout and a high level scope list that would allow a high level cost estimate to be carried out for each agreed option. All options and cost estimates were then presented to the client prior to selection of a single option for detailed design. During the detailed design stage I both produced and revised the P&ID and Control Philosophy for the project scope. I produced Detail Design Calculations to ensure that all new equipment met the required Minimum Asset Standards and produced Hydraulic Calculations as required to ensure gravity flow was possible. I liaised with equipment suppliers, and produced process requirement Datasheets to further assist mechanical engineers with equipment selection. I produced the initial Commissioning Strategy and Impact Plan Schedules to aide and inform site operations and commissioning engineers as to the work required on site. I have acted as both Chairman and Technical Secretary for HAZOP studies. -
Senior Process EngineerMott Macdonald Feb 2011 - Jun 2011Cambridge, United KingdomInitial investigations carried out by Southern Water indicated a potential need to expand Shoreham WWTW if further new development within the catchment were to take place, and a possible requirement for new nutrient removal as a result of the Marine Strategy Regulations 2010. I led a small design team responsible for the assessment of the current performance of the works, and the works performance with the additional projected future wastewater loads arising from proposed developments within the catchment. The capacity of the existing works was investigated, and the land take required under various growth and discharge consent scenarios was determined. -
Lead Design EngineerGbmjv (Galliford Try, Biwater, Mott Macdonald Joint Venture) Jun 2010 - Feb 2011London, United KingdomI managed a programme of work, meeting output targets on time and to budget. I had control of design budget and was responsible for all design elements of the project. I managed the outputs of the project design team, i.e. outputs from Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, ICA and Process engineers. I negotiated with suppliers and my project managers, and I discussed the operability of existing site equipment with site operations and the client.

Process Design EngineerThames Water Aug 2001 - Jun 2010London, United KingdomDeephams I was process engineer for the AMP5/6 design for a 100% replacement effluent stream to be located either on the existing site or at a new location. I identified process requirements to upgrade both effluent and sludge streams for a range of discharge and flow consents for AMP4/5. I was process engineer for the replacement of fine bubble diffusers in 7 out of 12 lanes. Effluent compliance maintained throughout project. Rye Meads Sludge Stream. I successfully constructed a mass balance model of the Sludge stream, used to predict the impact of increased loads on site due to the Hoddesdon Transfer Main, Stansted airport, imports due to a waste management activity, and additional growth within the catchment. Each scenario produced an outline design solution required to meet Thames Water best practice. Slough sludge stream Serviceability study I identified solutions to the following serviceability and operability issues on site build up of Fat and scum within the works; PFT operation/ primary sludge thickening Sludge imports; Digester feed control; Digester house keeping/ road drainage; Struvite build up. Solutions for each issue were identified and costed. Kew Biothane. I produced both the decommissioning and recommissioning plans for the only UASB reactors owned or operated by Thames Water, used to treat a high strength brewery effluent. Any failure of these reactors would have had legal implications - if the production of the brewery had to stop due to the project, Thames Water would have been liable for fines of £1millon per day. The UASB reactors produce Methane, so there was a risk of creating an explosion if either decommissioning or recommissioning was not carried out correctly. I eliminated the risk of producing an explosive atmosphere while still allowing the reactor to be brought back on line ahead of programme. Work on site was completed without incident, injury and without a drop in site performance. -
Process & Commissioning EngineerBiotim Uk Ltd Oct 1998 - Dec 2000Colchester, United KingdomMy work at Biotim was divided into three areas; Flow surveys, pilot trials and plant commissioning. I was the Biotim Representative on site, I liaised with my project managers and client project engineers. I was site supervisor for all contractors on site, managing, prioritising and co-ordinating work to be completed for both mechanical and electrical sub-contractors. I trained client staff on how to monitor/operate the plant and how to carry out site analysis and routine calibrations and maintenance.
