I support the development of staff and postgraduate research students’ research activity, working collaboratively across the University. This includes • identifing research development needs for staff and research students • providing central support for post graduate research students including supporting the the annual Postgraduate Research Conference• work collaboratively with ADD colleagues e.g. ensuring that technology is used effectively providing research students with opportunities to develop of their teaching skills• monitoring the YSJU research student experience including running the annual Postgraduate Research Experience Survey• contributing to external reviews of research and research degree activity• supporting staff in the publication and dissemination of their research findings by developing and implementing greater use of Open Access for publications• acting as the Executive Officer to the Postgraduate Research Supervisors Forum• Engaging with local, regional and national bodies and professional research networks to ensure currency and to promote the research profile of the University e.g. GuildHE, VITAE.

Leading and managing the Research Office; supporting the development, culture and management of research activity; planning, and co-ordinating the central administration of postgraduate research students (PGRS); monitoring and reporting on developments and PGRS satisfaction, including running the Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (87% response rate in 2013); advising on research issues, PGRS appeals and academic misconduct; acting as Executive Officer for Research Committee, Research Degrees Sub Committee and REF Steering Group; communicating information about standards to PGRS and staff; liaising with internal departments and external stakeholders; ensuring that YSJU PGRS protocols comply with national requirements and that policies and procedures are developed and maintained; providing training and skills development sessions for staff and research students; managing the central research budget; running the annual research methodologies conference; liaising with academic staff and student representatives.

Deputy Manager of UW’s largest Learning Centre (serving seven of its ten academic schools), head of the Learning and Research Support Team (25 staff), departmental lead for technology supported learning and providing liaison and support for research students. Duties included recruiting leading, managing and developing staff and the team; authoring funding bids; project management work (for example establishing our institutional repository); oversight of six AcademicSchools’ resource budgets (total value £457k); discipline matters within the Learning Centre; serving on the University’s Equality and Diversity Committee and Overseas Standing Panel.

Duties include planning and co-ordinating a multidisciplinary hybrid library service; managing staff and budget; liaison with NHS and Nottingham University users; managing the library's intranet site and successfully bidding for funds.

Blackpool, United Kingdom

Duties included chairing the Library Strategy Group (which included two NHS Trust Board Members); management of staff and budget and liaison with senior staff from two NHS Trusts and the University of Central Lancashire. Achievements included securing funding and negotiating a service level agreement with the local Community Trust and successfully bidding for £20,000 from Manchester Deaneryfor a research project.
