John Samuel is an international development practioner, with more than thirty years of  experience  in organizational leadership,  humanitarian action, sustainable development, public policy and advocacy. He has been in senior leadership roles in the United Nations and several international development organizations.He has been a leadership mentor, civil society and social movement  leader,  social entrepreneur and human rights activist in India and internationally.He is presently serving in the leadership role of one the largest international development organizations in the world.He is the founder and Chief Mentor of the Institute of Sustainable Development and Governance, and Bodhigram Foundation. He served as the Director /Head of the Global programme on governance assessments and Global Democratic Governance Advisor at UNDP. He served as the International Director of Actionaid International, Global Chair of Global Call to against Poverty and as the CEO of Asian forum for Human Rights and development. He helped to establish and served as the CEO of the National Centre for advocacy Studies in India. He has a multi-disciplinary academic background. He was a visiting fellow at the Institute of development Studies, University of Sussex and at the Advocacy Institute, Washington. He has helped to initiate and establish several advocacy and research organizations and civil society alliance and business enterprises , including Infochange News and Features , Centre for Budget and Governance Accountability, Centre for Communication and Development Studies, Open-space network of young people, Bodhigram, Trancivic, Asian Media forum, International Social Watch and GCAP( Global Call to Action against Poverty),and Institute for Sustainable Development and Governance. He has published extensively on issues related to public policy, sustainable development people-centred advocacy, democratic governance and civil society. He delivered lectures in universities across the world.
