I have been fortunate to have worked in a number of industries when they were the places to work.My first sales and management job was in stereo equipment, this was before home theatre! As that industry waned other opportunities arose and I was glad to be able to transition from that one to another. That has occurred a few more times in my career.From consumer electronics, to blank media, to wireless communication, to mortgages, to auto services, I have managed in these areas from store manager of small shops as well as big box, to district and territory management positions.What I have learned is, in the big view, there is very little difference from industry to industry. Selling is essentially a “people industry.” The processes are different, the products are unique, but the company’s greatest resource is in their people. These days, there are precious few goods and services of high caliber that “sell themselves” when you really think of it.The right people on the front lines interfacing with the customer and the right people giving them support and guidance coupled with a good value creates a winning environment.
