At Fanbase, I designed a breakout detection system that analyzed social media and news outlets to construct histories of professional athletes and identify, in real time, the pivotal moments in their careers. To achieve this, I designed a novel approach to score the internal similarity of groups of related text in real time utilizing minimal computational resources and I orchestrated the development of a bespoke distributed task system, effectively sharing workload across a cluster of numerous servers. This system monitored, ingested and analyzed tens of thousands of social media accounts and RSS feeds, in real time, identifying athletes by name and contextual relevance.
