My most recent published work, Liberated Spirits: Two Women Who Battled Over Prohibition, which was released by Penguin RandomHouse in October 2018. I conducted or directed nearly all of the research for this book in anticipation of its completion by a bestselling historian, but his untimely death thrust me into the role of author, one which I will be pursuing further on new projects. I am currently researching a new book on the political decisions that kept America isolationist and and out of WWII until late 1941.I have been researching and writing on a wide variety of historical subjects for more than 20 years, gaining a breadth of knowledge on numerous topics and an ability to find the most obscure or hidden pieces of information. I have conducted research in the Library of Congress, National Archives, state and local government archives, historical societies, public and academic libraries, government offices, and private manuscript collections, producing reports ranging from a few pages to book-length manuscripts. Many of the reports were used to inform expert testimony presented in litigation determining the allocation of liability for cleanup at complex environmentally-impacted sites involving several responsible parties. More recently, I have been engaged in efforts to assist communities, property owners, and prospective buyers in the redevelopment of brownfield sites by identifying parties responsible for environmental contamination and providing strategies, along with my associates at Drawbridge Solutions, for inducing them to share in the costs of cleanup.I have conducted extensive research of records related to the Native American experience, assisting Native communities in the preparation of histories documenting their respective exploitation, use, and management of natural resources. Those efforts led to research for a book on the entire history of one Native community in Alaska; the writing of that book remains a work in progress.
